A Wake-Up Call for Clean Water and Safety: Let’s Protect the Kids Together

Peace Makers, Build A Better Us, Orphanage

Hello Peace Makers,

Hi, my name is BJ Thompson, the director and president of BBU.
It’s been a while.

For those who don’t remember, BBU funds and helps operate an orphanage in Jinja, Uganda home to 28 bright, beautiful children who we’re honored to serve.

Here’s a photo of our 28 kids

🌍 Fun Fact About Jinja

Jinja is not only the source of the Nile, it was once a booming industrial city in East Africa. During the mid-20th century, it was known as the “industrial heart of Uganda,” before political unrest shifted its trajectory. Now, it’s a city rebuilding—just like our kids.

To build more community around the work we are doing in Uganda, I wanted to share more celebrations, developments, and stories of the great 28 kids we serve.

Why We’re Still Here (And What Comes Next)

We started this mission with one goal:
To empower the least of these to become the change makers of their own communities.

It’s a big vision. And in the day-to-day,floods, illness, broken water wells, it’s easy to lose sight of it.
But even in the chaos, the vision hasn’t changed.

We’re not just meeting needs.
We’re building leaders.

You’re not here to fund problems.
You’re here to invest in potential.

Together, we’re raising up children who will one day be the teachers, builders, and peacemakers in their village.

Celebrations:

Mukoda is one of our youngest just 6 years old.

Mukoda, 6

Before joining the orphanage, she lived with a family who simply couldn't provide the care she needed.

Now, in a safe and nurturing environment, she’s thriving excelling in school, and discovering her voice. She’s smiling more, learning faster, and dreaming bigger.

That’s the kind of change your support makes possible.

Current Projects:

The village’s clean water pump is broken, and the ongoing rainy season is making a hard situation worse.

  • Mattresses are soaked

  • Blankets are unusable

  • Illnesses like malaria are spreading quickly

Simon’s injury breaking his hand while trying to fetch water from the river is heartbreaking. But it’s also a wake-up call.

We need to act now.

Campaign Goal:

To respond to these urgent needs, we’re working to secure:

20 new scholarships to help with:

  • Restoration of the water well

  • Replaced bedding and supplies ruined by floodwater

Every dollar helps. And this isn’t just about solving today.
It’s about building a tomorrow where kids like Simon never have to face these dangers again.
